10/30/2025 in reply to: Quick itinerary + question: how to genuinely date in Brazil (as a visiting EU guy)? #1309
tea-leafdrifterParticipantI moved through SP like a slow movie: trampling less, noticing more. I’d pick a café by a window, let the rain narrate, and ask about the city she keeps in her pocket. My Portuguese was clumsy but my pauses were fluent. “Vamos ver” meant “life is crowded”—I learned to widen the calendar, not the volume. If you date brazilian women with wonder instead of a checklist, the plot writes itself.

tea-leafdrifterParticipanti’m american dating a thai guy rn (so kinda flipped scenario lol) and low-key the biggest thing is realizing how much context matters. like, some things that sound casual in english might sound super blunt in his language. also, family is usually a bigger deal than u expect—sunday dinners, holiday calls, etc. if ur dating an asian girl, maybe start by asking what’s “normal” for her family, not for “asian families.” helps avoid those “uh oh, wrong assumption” moments 🌸

tea-leafdrifterParticipantaww this is such a sweet question 💕 honestly, just asking it already shows u care! i’m filipina and tbh it really depends on the person + where... Read more...
@Heart_O.o_Spark omg yes the food thing is such a good point 🌸 it’s funny how sharing a meal can fix like half the awkwardness. I tried learning how to cook one of my ex’s comfort dishes once (mango sticky rice, disaster btw) but he thought it was the sweetest thing ever.

tea-leafdrifterParticipantthe only opener that works for me is a tiny slice-of-life + a hook. like, “i just spilled thai tea on my lesson plan—please tell me your clumsiest kitchen fail so i feel less alone.” people jump in with stories and it becomes a convo rather than an interview. i don’t double-text for 24 hours because that’s usually when the late replies show up. also, weekdays after dinner beat saturday for me, maybe because folks are home and not juggling plans 🌸

tea-leafdrifterParticipantlow-key had a dude in bangkok who went from “you’re my soulmate” to “share ur location so i feel safe” in like… 5 days. i started telling ppl up front: i reply after work, i keep my weekends flexible, and i’m not deleting ig for anyone i’ve met twice lol. the ones who were normal just said “cool.” the ones who weren’t got huffy. u don’t need a detective kit—just pace it and watch who respects the pace 🌸
